One of the things I didn’t really like about myself was how unaffectionate I  was - always wanting to give and receive things like hugs  but resisting them nonetheless.   Well, it seems as though one of the best ways to change is to throw yourself into a culture that does the opposite of what you feel comfortable with.  People down here kiss each other on the cheek and hug and all kids of seemingly ridiculous stuff upon first meeting each other, not just nods of the head and hand shakes like we do in the USA when we introduce ourselves. I too have to do it, even though I hate it.  After only five weeks down here in Argentina, though, I think I not only like this whole touching/affection crap, but I prefer it.  Who knows how else I will change while I’m down here but for now I can proudly say this one’s in the can.
